Senior Backend Engineer
Are you a Senior Backend Engineer ready to take full ownership of your code, from architecture to deployment? Let's build scalable systems, innovate with AI, and drive performance.
In a nutshell 🥜
Wikifarmer is on a mission to empower farmers globally by giving them access to knowledge and fair, open markets. Our platform is growing fast, and we’re building tech that makes a real impact. As we scale and move towards a microservices architecture, we’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in collaborative, hands-on environments.
You’ll help shape the backend systems and infrastructure that power Wikifarmer, from clean Laravel code to AWS deployments, while experimenting with AI tools that boost productivity. If you like ownership, practical problem-solving, and building systems that scale, this role is for you.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services with PHP and Laravel, writing clean, testable, and scalable code
- Contribute to our platform’s evolution as we break down the monolith and move toward microservices
- Own the DevOps lifecycle - ship confidently with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS
- Monitor, debug, and optimize using logs and metrics to ensure reliability
- Work closely with frontend developers, PMs, and stakeholders to deliver features that matter
- Document your work and share knowledge to keep everyone aligned
- Explore and use AI tools (LLMs, coding assistants, workflow automations) to speed up development and spark new ideas
- Communicate openly and adapt quickly in an agile environment that values iteration and transparency
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience building and maintaining Laravel (PHP) applications in production
- Comfort with DevOps tools - Docker, CI/CD pipelines, AWS - and ownership of code in production
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (MariaDB/MySQL) and efficient SQL practices
- A sense of ownership: you don’t just ship code, you see it through to deployment and monitoring
- A startup-ready mindset: proactive, adaptable, comfortable shifting gears when things change
- Clear communication skills to keep teams in sync in async/remote-first setups
- A collaborative spirit - you enjoy solving problems together with designers, engineers, and product teams
- Curiosity for AI and how it can enhance development and productivity
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with Python, microservices, or observability tools
- Contributions to open source projects that show initiative
- A track record of building AI-backed product features
What we can offer:
- 💰 A competitive salary of €50-60k based on experience
- 🩺 Private medical insurance for you and your family
- 🌱 Real ability to impact our architecture - your work directly shapes farmers success and operational excellence
- 🤝 A flat structure and collaborative team that values initiative, innovation, and ownership
